Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a vertical broken silver arrow entwined by a green serpent, the arrow point contained within a voided silver triangle whose base angles rest within and upper angle superimposes upon and extends beyond a circular maroon scroll inscribed CONSERVE at left and RESTORE at right in silver letters, the arrow and serpent extending over and beyond the scroll in base, and the area within the scroll rayed as a sunburst.

Symbolism
Maroon and white (silver) are the colors traditionally used by Dental Units.  The voided triangle forms the Greek letter delta, an allusion to the D worn by dental personnel.  The broken arrow and serpent symbolize the reconstructive abilities of this dental facility, and the sunburst pattern of the background denotes excellence.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 19 July 1982.
